Insulin syringes
Insulin syringes are the most important for diabetics; insulin dependent patients. All those people who suffer from diabetes require medicine of some sort. There are only two ways to control diabetes:
Ø through tablets
Ø through insulin
- Tablet dependent patients:
The tablet depending patients have to take tablets that control the hormones and keep the diabetes in control.
- Insulin dependent patients:
The insulin dependent patients require insulin which is injected twice a day. It is injected into the muscles like the biceps, thighs or the abdomen. The insulin is injected through special syringes.
The insulin syringes are special. They have an extra thin needle. The needle is thin and smaller in size as well. The syringes are different according to the comfort level of the people. The syringes that are designed for insulin are designed with U-100 as standard hundred units for insulin. The syringe can be filled according to the amount of units required from the insulin vials which have 10ml of insulin in them.
The best part of the insulin syringes is that they are made in such a way that they can be used by a person for themselves on their own without any kind of extra aid. They have special features that other syringes lack:
Ø The needles being shorter in length they are less painful.
Ø The needles are not intramuscular or intravenous, but they are subcutaneous (under the skin).
Ø The needles are marked specially in such a way that the units desired to be taken can be filled accordingly.
Ø The special design makes it easy for one to inject the insulin in their bicep or any other muscle on their own.
Ø The insulin syringe can be used more than once for the same patient if kept in a germ free environment.
Insulin dependent patients require insulin according to their doctors' advice. A heavier doze of the insulin can result in glycocymia. Glycocymia is very low level of the sugar, this damages the brain cells and can result in the patient going into a state of coma. Administered doze given by the doctor is actually what the patient should take as very low dose can also result into serious affects.
Insulin syringes are also available in pen shapes. These pens are filled with insulin and have a needle at their tip. The back of these pens has a rotator that administers the doze of the insulin. All one needs to do before taking the insulin is adjust the number of units desired to be taken and then inject the needle into the skin.
Insulin dependent patients need to take care that when they should change their needle or their syringe. The area starts to itch and the need to scratch gets to irritant if the needle doesn't suit a person. The same thing happens if the needle gets old or blunt. The insulin syringes are disposable and their needles cannot be changed whereas the insulin pens are such kind of syringes that their needles can be changed as many times as the patient requires according to his satisfaction, till the insulin ends in the pen.
