Frequently Asked Questions...

Murphy's law or what?

Last week my daughter broke her beloved Tommee Tippee Orthodontic soother- the last one we had. They aren't available in the shops anymore so I turned to ebay and managed to lay my hands on 6 of them for a shocking £36. Well, the first four arrived this morning and Evie, my little girl, looked pleased. I gave her one to suck after washing it etc and she stood there, looked at me and spat it out on the floor then stomped away in a huff!!

Usually she won't got to sleep without a dummy but tonight she dropped off after her bottle without an issue. For almost a week I haven't slept and I feel like crying now!!

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Or is it just my luck?
£36 on 6 dummies...I could kick myself!!
I stayed up until 3am making sure I won the items...that's dedication and I will be bringing it up for years to come! lol

Facts about Orthodontics

Orthodontics is one of several subclasses of dentistry.

Orthodontic check ups are no exception. It is a widely accepted norm that by the age of at least seven all children should receive some kind of orthodontic evaluation. What precisely does an orthodontist do? Essentially they use various methods and tools to shape and sculpt the jaw and teeth so they grow in as straight as possible. Every year innovative tactics come along that can help people in new ways, and that can deal with more serious issues more effectively. There are two challenges to finding a good orthodontist, depending on the nature of your city: You may live in a smaller community with only one or two orthodontists, or you may live in a larger center that seems overrun with orthodontists! Each situation presents its unique challenges, but here are some ideas to consider:

Write the names, numbers address etc, then leave some space beside the name for some note taking later.
After a day or two to reflect, call back the finalists with one or two more questions and possibly to schedule an inital appointment. In fact, some studies actually utilized unlabelled before and after pictures of patients, and it was impossible for the reviewers to choose with any assurance which pictures were from before the treatment and which were from after the treatment. In addition, modern "tooth-pulling"- more properly referred to as tooth extractions, do not cause joint problems..

The result of a very large epidemiologic study that looked into relationship of orthodontic treatment to TMD showed:
No significant association between a bad bite and persistent TMD
TMD prevalence is higher in ladies than males
There is a real basis for this concern. When pacifiers are used, there is roughly a fifty percent increase in the development of what is called a "posterior cross bite." And, unfortunately, these cross bites do not straightern out once the child stops using their pacifier. There are however many other contributing factors to this condition including genetics, the child's unique breathing patterns, and others..

About three quarters of a million individuals have chosen to use this new technique, which consists of a series of clear easily placed and removed mouth pieces. Approximately fifteen hundred people work in the Santa Clara head quarters of Align Tech. When the Invisalign mouthpiece is placed over their teeth, it is very clear and nearly invisible. The Invisalign system on the other hand uses biweekly adjustments- new peices every two weeks- with tinier adjustments that result in less discomfort.

In many cases Invisalign is even more expensive than traditional braces which are already considered expensive by lots of people.

Align Technology is currently working on new materials for the aligners so that all people can be accommodated with their Invisalign products.
Braces for Your Teeth

Misalignments are known as malocclusions and are treated by orthodontists in a variet of ways including braces. Braces have four basic parts; Brackets, Bonding Material, Arch Wires and a Ligature Elastic.

Arch Wire: Arch wires are skinny metal wires attached to each bracket and which run across to the adjacent bracket. These also help to keep the teeth in place by putting pressure on the teeth themselves.

A few braces do not use these elastics and are referred to as "self-ligating."

As a result, treatment is prescribed in various forms to correct the problem. A patient's jaw growth can be modified and controlled by the use of 'braces' placed on the teeth; the interaction of brackets and wires is what is used to relocate the jaw into a desired positioning. When orthodontic care has not shown the desired outcome in reshaping of the teeth and jaw, surgery is the next step in treatment. During the sessions, topics such as: what to expect, recovery time and procedure details are explored in detail. The actual jaw of the patient is fractured and reset in the ideal position in order to correct the abnormalities.
