What is man
What is man. And what are we and where do we actually come from?
More to the point why are we so. What makes a person is their acquired knowledge questioned and tested to a point of view. As with working with raw iron turning it in to steel, it takes time and effort what emerges is either steel that is weak and will rust and fade away or strong and bright that will keep its edge and need a quick stone from time to time.
But then there are many points of view each believing the truth is with them and wow betide any one that tries to shake that belief.
So we have mankind in many camps all thinking what is so is so. The common knowledge in certain areas being accepted as fact and inappropriate knowledge that knocks their own particular beliefs being disregarded as nonsense. All that is good, as we should be thinking and moving on to better and more constant thoughts of truth rather than a particular belief that dissolves as we learn more about the world around us.
We strive to learn and move on, we once had scientists tell us that the planet was flat, every one knew that didn’t they. The scientists even suggested that a man could not go faster than a speeding horse or his bones would start to fall apart. At the time all this seemed plausible. Then we could not fly or go faster than the speed of sound we all know now that is not right and now we are being told that we can not go faster than the speed of light or we would have got there before we started because of the space time continuum all thanks to genius Einstein who pronounced scientific principles that make science fiction possible. But who is there to challenge such wisdom and who but the truly learned can even understand the equations that surround his theories though I see a correlation with him and a modern day inventor of the super efficient carpet cleaner the Dyson. Mr Dyson the inventor who has become very rich with his fantastic attack on the dirt and grime within our carpets is as most inventors are, a one hit inventor where he struggles to regain that glory of that first and most important invention of his which has been the means to his, now wealth which he uses to invent more items which just do not make the grade. They say each inventor has one real invention in them and that’s it. Unless you steal from others and make their ideas as your own, and we have seen that happen. But let me come back to that in a while.
In another camp of thought we have the creationist who will say we were made in Gods image and woman from Adams rib and he making the entire planet in six days some say about 10,000 years ago.
Others would say you cant paint your house in seven days let alone make planet earth and stock it with all plant and human life which the bible suggests, common sense dictates it can only be wrong and Darwin is right in talking about evolution. Mankind evolving from an ape like being to what we are now. On a pragmatic level Darwin relates more easily to free thinkers as the progression of natural selection seems to fit in to a more pragmatic frame of mind.
But then I have problems with Darwin and Einstein not that they haven’t contributed important information to the betterment of mankind in general and its people like them that are what the world needs to ever grow our knowledge and become better able to look after the well being of those that benefit from these new discoveries.
Over many years it occurred to me that all is not as it would seem. I question Darwin the bible and people like Einstein and would say that all are right in part and all are wrong in some part of what they preach to us lesser mortals who can only watch learn and follow in their foot steps.
As a pragmatist viewing say a fine specimen of man, lets consider the highest Darwinian principal in that ape, half man then man, with lots of in-between sub species along the way. Does that mean a blue eyed blond 6ft tall Scandinavian is more advanced than say a black African that doesn’t look much different to say a silver backed Gorilla. Does this mean that the African is still evolving or do we twist the argument to suit Darwin to suggest that black gives a better means to survive and man in Africa naturally evolved that way. Sounds fine but what of the looks why so different. Why the Chinese, why the many different shapes and sizes that can be found all around the world.
All evolving at the same rate judging by the size of the brain which is as far as I can determine in modern man all over the world about the same where ever you look.
That’s a strange way to evolve Mr Darwin, its usual for something to get bigger and better not be bigger and not work properly as we have with modern mans brain with some 10% in use, why does the rest just sit there, what is it waiting for.
It is highly improbable that mankind has evolved to the level we have all at the same time. Line up all the races from all over the world and take their sons and daughters and send them to the same schools and bring them up in say a European family group and you will have every child behaving just like all the rest and many from backgrounds that would have socially let them down show genius and become in time learned people.
The human brain is special and at times shows remarkable skills Darwin’s theories can be argued fiercely by those that say they understand better what evolution is and how we are perceived to have evolved to our state. But then The Aborigine has been cut off from outside influence for what must have been countless centuries with a whole band of unique marsupials found no where else on earth. A duck billed Platypus a furry Otter like animal with a strange flat sort of tail and a beak like a duck that swims under water to find food. No where else do you find animals such as found in Australia unless we talk about the Galapagos Islands and one or two out of the way places where time had stopped still as far as migration was concerned and the animal life evolved in a microcosm to what it is today. This returns us to the Aborigines, they have survived with the fittest forming families and surviving all those countless years to be found by Cook not that long ago in evolutionary terms so take a native boy and bring him up here in England in our social surroundings and send him to school and you will find that he is no different to a blue eyed white. So is this agreement with Darwin, not exactly because there are serious flaws that are fairly clear to be seen in this argument and its these little inconsistencies that are never considered as with Einstein when I read “as observed by another” when explaining his theories.
For me if Darwin was right my perception of say a blue eyed 6ft Scandinavian with his appropriate mate and family all taking after the mother and father would be top of the evolutionary tree as we have it today so put aside all the other factors of colour size or looks and say what we see. Either a while man is top of the evolution tree and the black is still forming or each are where they should be which then beggars the question, did they all evolve exactly at the same time? Common sense says no to that. For Darwin to be right there should be ample proof of ape man and many in-between amongst us right now.
If we put bias aside as best as possible we all know what beauty is. Ask any man what he would like to look like truthfully and you would have something akin to a Roman marble statue. Ask what he would want of a mate and all you need to do is look in a men’s magazine. All of which relates well to the perception that we move on from an ape like creature and have evolved in to such perfect specimens that one glimpse of an unusually beautiful woman literally takes away a mans breath.
It does with me and if that makes me less of a human being then all I say is Darwin might be right with fighting for survival and the best man wining to perpetuate the species and have more beautiful children. It sort of adds up but then there is the time gap.
How long would have it taken for modern man to evolve from our ape cousins. Just look at our highly evolved 6ft blue eyed specimen. He can manipulate the tiniest thing and make a watch. He can build and produce highly technical items that fit in to the fabric of our society, which added together, give us all the comforts of modern day living. And importantly he can think laterally, he can juggle many problems in his mind at once and find a solution to them all and if he cannot, he probably knows someone that can.
Common sense indicates that man took many millions of years to evolve there is no such animal on this planet that has the combined attributes of what we call human. There just has not been enough time to evolve as its known that modern man simply popped up from nowhere a few thousand years ago with a huge brain that is retarded. I say that simply as it is clear that the brain is in working order but as only about 10% is actually doing something it is as if the doors of the mind are closed for much of the time in all but a few that at times show great insight in to things that simply slips the rest of us. So why should we have evolved the wrong way around. As already suggested the brain ought to have grown with knowledge and become bigger and bigger as we progressed through human kinds development.
In my mind there is a huge gap in credibility in Darwin in this area as clearly we have a problem with how we actually are as modern man. Why can we not use all our brain at the same time? Why are all humans virtually the same regarding brain size.
Ok I hear the argument that little people say the Chinese have smaller bodies and in turn have a slightly smaller brain in some cases. Yes accept the point but as a generality the amount of cells working are the same, all mankind is at virtually the same conscious level. I’m sure we could split hairs on several fronts but the basic principle is sound.
If Darwin was right with his evolution theory for the animals of this planet I am not so sure that he is with mankind. There just has not been enough time to evolve in the short time we are aware we have been around stomping the earth.
So if this is right then what? If we did not evolve here what then and how.
The bible tells it all, put aside the problem of creation of six days and rest on the seventh and man and woman being formed in the image of God himself and consider “what if”.
What if the bible is right in principal and there was a sort of creation what would it have involved and what sort of timing is there to consider. I have always believed that the answers to most of our questions are out there and all that needs to be done is to search for the pieces of the bigger puzzle and put them together and we might, just might surprise ourselves.
Well if God made every thing he certainly was about millions of years ago and made dinosaurs and coelacanths one of the earliest fish, the bible seems to skip that point. And strangely as the coelacanth has recently been rediscovered alive and swimming and has not changed much in all those millions of years when we know they existed I wonder how Darwin can square that especially when there was talk that the original fossils found that the fish had what seemed the beginnings of legs a sort of extension to the fins, scientist said it was possibly a fish becoming a land animal, the fact is they are the same as they were in the fossils that were found and millions of years have not apparently altered it as it should have by now sprouted legs arms and be called Fred and be sitting next to me in the office drinking coffee.
So if we, man were made in the form of God then what and when. What model would fit the truth that we can all identify with?
The first thing to consider is how special we all are. We tend to be so busy in our day to day lives that we don’t often, if at all stop and think how lucky we all are. Though digressing from the point my own feeling about life and all that goes on is fairly simple in that hell and haven are all here to be found just where we are right now. Two houses with two families all earning the same money and every thing should be the same the same happiness all spread evenly. Life is just not like that is it. The bad behaviour of just say one partner can bring hell in to that families where the sky comes down and the lights go out for the unfortunate people involved.
Its only humans that can do that, it’s the word the thought the action and then lack of trust maybe and then the lies and then the fear of loss and then the loss. This is all human being problems as animals don’t lie or deliberately behave badly unless a human master trains them that way.
We are special and exceedingly so there are so many things we can do and so many things that are unusual that touches the possible edges of a God like method of thinking that the majority just gape and stare at what genius there is amongst us. Our normal brains, which I have already suggested are retarded, though we call them normal. To me the sometimes brilliant uttering of those amongst us leaves me wondering why were they able to do it.
The simple answer might be because the people are geniuses and have worked very hard to be the person that they are. Dyson of our time with his vacuum cleaner, Darwin over a hundred years ago and Einstein who dies last mid century. They all had a spark if something special but even now I am left with what was the real thing and what was the add-ons.
Before I answer that let me please let you in to a little secrete that I am fully aware of and I do believe Dyson and Einstein and possibly Darwin in formulating his thoughts of evolution had all something in common.
I would say we have all encountered the “Eureka “ moment. The mind seems to for just a few seconds become crystal clear and a problem you had been desperately trying to solve becomes so easy. The answer is as if you had known it all along and that’s it.
A door opens in the mind and quicker than placing a new program in to your D: drive of the computer you have been passed all the knowledge required to solve the problem. Not only that but you can mentally see exactly what is the subject matter.
In all my years there have been three main times involving new inventions of an unknown previous design the first was the Josher control Valve the second the Professional Powered Pango a device for clearing blocked kitchen sinks and the last the Cavatrox which I am still working on at time of writing. In each case it was as if a door opened and the information comes out and the door shuts firmly.
Because I do believe very strongly that we humans have this ability to have these moments of clarity and I would guess not as frequently as we would wish then the real problem starts when the obvious author of a brilliant idea tries to do the same again because it is expected it of him or he has the arrogance to palm off not so brilliant ideas to the unsuspecting world as something special.
Leaving Einstein who is obviously a big fish and turning to Dyson I wonder why he thought the duel turning drum washing machine was worth producing. Or for that matter that machine gun looking vacuum cleaner for cars. Or even the ball vacuum cleaner that goes around corners. The obvious answerer is he could because he had the cash to do it.
I wouldn’t wish to upset Mr Dyson one bit but his ingenious design for the original vacuum cleaner that he had the tenacity to put his home and security of his family on the line to produce says much of integrity and belief of himself and he deserves all that has been bestowed on him. But it is unlikely that he will emulate that first great invention of his. I do not believe that the majority of innovators are so lucky to obtain that many useful Eureka moments to allow one invention after another. It just doesn’t happen in real life. However there have been notable inventors as with Leonardo Devinchi who had he been here today would have no doubt had this ability top come up with good ideas one after the other.
Now turning to Einstein there are bits of his genius that is breath taking but then knowing how those eureka moments occur I just do not believe he had one after the other as would be the case to lay out a string of theories that just beggars belief. But then who can argue with the great man. And there are many that would fight every principal he has postulated tooth and nail.
Luckily I am not so well learned in Einstein to believe all that I read. The bits I have read and I think understood seem to turn common sense on its head. But if accepted the mathematics seem to add up. Or is it a case of juggling the figures to say something is so when it is no. Scientists have done that constantly through out time. We now have global warming being caused by Co2 and that we insignificant little specks on the face of this planet are causing the destruction of our world.
So what have we. It is said that if you travelled faster than the speed of light you could have got there before you even started, “time dilation theory” Its said no useful mass, that you or me in our little space ship, can actually go faster than the speed of light.
In simple terms if you tried, the energy required would need to be increased so much that no amount of energy from your huge jet engines could actually get you to that speed. The sums are astronomical and not worth even placing on paper. The harder you try the less likely to succeed that’s the theory.
I’m only a plumber and I see a serious problem in all that. The calculation are always stated as in the vacuum of space and they often add”to the observer” as if that really matters as all I see is an if or a but in the equation.
Take an ordinary nuclear powered space ship that will give you a constant thrust of 1000 km per minute. After one minute the engine is switched off we are now travelling at 1000km per hour and with nothing to stop you are likely to carry on forever. Now lets not add as perceived by a bystander and lets say as perceived by the pilot who knows nothing about Einstein or his theories.
Unless my maths are wrong after two and a quarter hours with nothing in your way you will be travelling at half the speed of light and then you turn off your engine. Have a quick look all around. Relative to all around you, you are not moving. Relative to someone else that’s another matter. Otherwise switching on the engines for another two and quarter hours you should react 333.000km per second and more if you continue. Why not? What is to stop you except a theory that when put in to practice ought to have you back before you started. I hear screams of “space time dilation” has been proved. But then what of every thing has its checks and balances and for every thing there is a plus and a minus to balance up the tally. If there is a shrinkage of time travelling away from an object coming back what ever way you choose will ultimately result in evening the books. So never believed that you could go off in to space to a year or so later to find your two year old child has become a father with two children and your wife is being held up with a Zimmer frame waiting for you to emerge from you rocket ship having not aged except for say two years.
Nice theory but slaps of flat earth science and not sure that the great man didn’t add all that to his first and greatest idea on mass. And time dilating was nothing other than a smoke screen that attempted to add to the idea he was a continuing genius. People just expected it of him with sycophants hanging on to his coat tails at the time what could the poor man do. He knows that he will be found out one day or another. But they cannot take away that so important initial finding that has served us all so well.
As with a man that comes up with a new method to clean carpets or an equation on what mass is these are not strange inhuman people, they are probably more level headed than most as they knew that carpet cleaner or mathematical theory could ruin them. Einstein was very unsure of himself for some ten years where no one actually understood what he was saying. Then almost as if it were the Kings cloths all over again it was a matter of “ you can not be a physicist scientist if you do not understand Einstein naturally they all understood and proclaimed him from the hill tops. There will always be a little boy who says he can not see the kings new cloths in all nonsense perpetrated from us not so perfect human kind.
So what have we here Einstein is a fraud? No not exactly he could not be that but as with most people a little truth is the carrier of a huge burden. As with anything that is not understood properly by the masses and anything that depends on assumptions and man made calculations we will always have the flat earth specialists and there will always be followers.
Until the theory is proved wrong. Proving that you could be back where you started before you actually went is one of the silliest postulations that has ever been made. Granted it sounds fine coming from such a foremost man, but then wasn’t he a not so clever student that didn’t achieve much I his early days. Not the genius we all thought. He only became so after his theory on mass was understood by one person then another then an avalanche of eager followers. From that point he was expected to be clever and expected to come up with new theories. That’s the problem I have with him.
I just do not believe that world shattering theories can come one after the other as easily as seemed the case here and would say that following his earlier success there was no one prepared to rubbish his ideas. And who can prove as a fact that he is wrong. In 2009 not likely
